Philanthropy and the Ability Experience

Our Mission

Here at Theta Omicron we strive to be as involved as much as possible in our national fraternity’s philanthropy, The Ability Experience. Throughout our chapters history we have raised over $25,000. We host multiple events year round involving Reno’s Greek community including percentage nights, competition weeks, and digital fundraisers.

We also participate in the Ability Camp, where we travel to camps for the disabled and help improve the facilities for them. Our goal as a chapter is to build more awareness for the ability experience. We are also working to gain more community support and to be involved in more philanthropic efforts in our community. Theta Omicron has a mission to leave a long lasting impact on the community.

War of the Roses

The War of the Roses is our week long philanthropy fundraiser and competition. Every Fall we invite every sorority on campus to compete against each other and help raise funds for The Ability Experience. We start off the week with a banner competition on social media, and hold digital fundraisers throughout the week. We also hold in person events like Dunk-A-PiKapp, Spot a Stallion, and percentage nights. We finish off the week with a sorority flag football competition. This is a great opportunity to gain support from the sororities with philanthropies we support.

Ability Camp

Once a semester our brothers get a chance to travel to the Ability Camp, where we get to see the real hands-on impact of our fundraising. At the Ability Camp we get to improve facilities for the disabled and work with other chapters to improve conditions for everyone. This is a great way to make a hands--on impact, gain leadership and teamwork experience, and to learn new skills.

Local Community

Our chapter also participates in events that aren’t just hosted by the Ability Experience, the past two years we have had the blessing to work with the Special Olympics. During these events we have had brothers referee games and help coach the players participating. Our chapter had another opportunity to help with the Reno Burrito Project and help the homeless. We are thankful for the opportunity to help wherever we can.
